Well, it was bound to happen, EzyDVD has announced its download on demand service. We saw that this was an important move for the organization a couple of years ago and wondered what they would do.

Notwithstanding this, one has to wonder the impact that launching an online download site will have on the bricks and mortar stores, particularly those owned by Franchisees.

Reading the press releases and such about the launch of the service, there are no mention of the existing stores and how they can take advantage of the new service. Or will the stores be able too take advantage of the service? At the time we left the franchise, our stores did not receive any commissions, recognition or rebates for sales placed through the EzyDVD website and we know that a percentage of the customers who attended the store, got the information they wanted to know from us and then went home and placed the order via the Internet.

When EzyGames was announced, the stores couldn’t access the EzyGames setup.

When the Rent Or Buy concept was announced, we were told that existing franchisees couldn’t access it.

So, will the Franchisees be able to access the EzyDownload concept and integrate it into their businesses? If not, what does the introduction of download movies under the EzyDVD brand mean to the franchises? In an industry where the margins are tight and costs are rising, how will the additional competition affect the franchise stores?
